Freedom of Speech
more.
The Freedom of Speech list contains banned or challenged books. Try this different approach in teaching the First Amendment by having the students discuss reasons why the title was banned or challenged and then research what our society looked like at the time it was banned. Make cross curricular connections by locating videos and articles by authors that discuss banned books and freedom of speech. Analyze the First Amendment and examine landmark challenges and cases. Great historical examples regarding violations of freedom of speech include the McCarthy era and Nazi book burning.
